The already advanced 1199 Panigale is going to be taken up another notch for next years World Superbike.
It's now apparent that there's a reason behind Ducati announcing that they wouldn't be racing the Panigale in the 2012 WSBK championship. The World Superbike homologation special will be equipped with the Ducati Energia™ Kinetic Energy Recovery system. ....Or is this an elaborate (and awesome) April fools joke?

It's basically an air bag for your body rather than inside your car. The D-Air system uses three accelerometers and three gyroscopes to determine when it should inflate- in a mere .025 seconds. That means it'll have detected an accident and triggered inflation before you even know you're going down.

The D-Air street system has four components:
1) An ECU/user interface that mounts in the cockpit/on the bars
2) A set of accelerometers that mount on the forks
3) A lean angle sensor under the seat that detects falls
4) The actual airbag unit (being worn by the rider)
Since many motorcycle accident studies have shown that accidents on the road firstly impact the head (protected by the helmet) and secondly the chest, abdomen, and back… you can see the need for such protection. You can live through a broken leg, living through a broken neck or back is painful, dehabilitating, and often doesn't happen.

I'm not jumping for joy, but I feel more relaxed now - affirmed Rossi after the test - The result of the second Sepang test wasn't an accurate reflection of our performance level."
